Constable’s Heroic Chase Leads to Apprehension of Chain-Snatcher in Ghatkopar
In a display of exceptional bravery, Pantnagar Constable Ravindra Kurhe apprehended a 19-year-old chain-snatcher following a dramatic chase at Ghatkopar’s Pushp Vihar Junction. The suspect, Mohammad Ali Shaukat Ali Mirza, was caught with a 2 lakh gold chain stolen from 74-year-old Kishori Pravin Mehta. Authorities have filed BNS charges as the search for a second suspect continues.
According to police accounts, one accused approached the elderly victim from behind, violently pushed her, and snatched her gold chain, resulting in a neck injury. The perpetrator, identified as Mohammad Ali Shaukat Ali Mirza, then attempted to flee the scene by jumping onto a moving motorcycle operated by his associate, Irfan. As the duo accelerated toward the highway, Constable Kurhe, who witnessed the brazen criminal act while on patrol nearby, initiated a high-stakes chase.
Constable Kurhe successfully intercepted the motorcycle and apprehended Mirza, although Irfan managed to evade capture and remains at large. During a subsequent search of Mirza, authorities recovered a 28-gram gold chain featuring a diamond-studded pendant, valued at 2 lakh, concealed within his jeans pocket.
In the aftermath of the incident, a formal complaint was filed, leading to the registration of a case under sections 3(5) and 309(6) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Ongoing investigations are currently underway as law enforcement officials work to trace the absconding accomplice. Acknowledging the bravery and vigilance displayed during the operation, Senior Police Inspector Lata Sutar officially felicitated Constable Ravindra Kurhe for his prompt and exemplary action in the line of duty.
